Congrats to our Supervisor of the Year!

Our very own Executive Director, Susan Bowden, was selected as 2015 "Winners in the Workplace" Supervisor of the Year by our Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce! We are so proud to have her as a wonderful leader at Hospice of South Georgia & Langdale Hospice House.

Susan was instrumental in promoting the vision and establishment of the Langdale Hospice House and expansion of Hospice of South Georgia (HOSG) home care services over an eight county area. Susan began her career in 1988 as the first employee hired for HOSG. She worked as a patient care coordinator until she became the director in 1996. Susan was the first registered nurse in the Valdosta area to earn national certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing.

With a staff of 50 employees and 50 active volunteers, Susan coordinates the care of approximately 65 patients daily. She is recognized for her compassionate, passion-driven commitment to providing terminal patients the right to die pain-free and with dignity while also providing support to their caregivers and families. Furthermore, Susan provides her staff and volunteers with professional, emotional and spiritual support, never hesitating to assist them in any manner necessary. In July of 2013 Susan successfully took on a new challenge to assist the HOSG volunteers with the opening of the Tree House, a resale store whose proceeds support the services provided by HOSG and Langdale Hospice House.

Susan has served on numerous professional and community boards including past president of Quota International of Valdosta and past secretary for the Board of Directors of the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She served as the Class President for Leadership Lowndes Class of 2007 and was also named the Valdosta Junior Women’s club “Woman of the Year” that year. She is a member of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta.

In closing, Hospice of South Georgia & Langdale Hospice House is pleased to honor Susan Bowden for her tireless efforts to promote the availability of quality and compassionate patient care services to Hospice patients and their caregivers, while honoring her ongoing contributions to staff, volunteers and the community.

Congrats, Susan! Thank you for all that you do!
